Dude Ranches are a Hot Travel Trend for 2016

Saturday, March 5th, 2016

This year’s hot travel trend is actually not even new. The dude ranch vacation dates back to the late 1880s when the spirit of the Wild West was firmly entrenched in the American and European psyche. Wealthy foreigners and Eastern industrialists, including Theodore Roosevelt, came to the West – and its dude ranches, for the abundant wildlife and magnificent unspoiled scenery. During the 20s and 30s, dude ranch owners discovered that opening up their ranches to guests was a good way to increase their income. This has continued to the present day.

So why have dude ranches’ popularity exploded these days? When it comes to vacation planning, many people nowadays want to go somewhere unique where they can create memories and bond with their families. “More people are visiting dude ranches to do something out of the ordinary” says Colleen Hodson from the Dude Rancher’s Association. “Dude ranches are the original Western adventure vacation.” Deep down the core principles of dude ranching remain the same: horses, hats, hospitality, heritage, honesty and heart but dude ranches have evolved immensely from what they originally were and now offer a plethora of experiences. Perhaps the popularity is due to fact that there really is something for everyone. You can go to a dude ranch numerous times and have a different experience each time depending on the type of ranch, time of year and who is accompanying you.

Some dude ranches feature special ranch getaways for cowgirls or adults only, while others are a virtual “Disney World” for kids of all ages. Some ranches focus on the culinary experience serving the finest wine and food pairings along with cooking instructions supplied by noted chefs.  Other dude ranches attract fitness buffs by offering yoga, meatless menus and spa treatments.  Still more are known for birding, astronomy, photography classes, painting workshops and special eco-tours.

You also won’t feel as connected on other types of holidays where you are just one tourist among thousands. High end ranches across the USA average 45 guests at a time and your days and meals are often shared with other guests. By the end of your stay, you’ll know everyone and might even have forged some new friendships.  The remote, peaceful setting lends itself to easy camaraderie, so it’s not uncommon for lifetime friendships to develop during a dude ranch vacation

Once you have been to a dude ranch, you will probably want to go back. Dude ranch owners report that more than a third of all reservations each season are made by repeat visitors. Colleen Hodson reports a similar yet different pattern among the daily inquiries at the Dude Rancher’s Association. She is finding that a group lovingly nicked named as “ranch junkies”, who are travelers who visit dude ranches frequently but prefer to explore a different DRA ranch each trip are inquiring often about dude ranches

Whether it’s the unique experience, the diverse activities, the welcoming atmosphere or the human connection the old is new again. Put a dude ranch vacation on your to do list to see what everyone else is loving.

Beach Vacations vs Dude Ranch Vacations

Sunday, January 17th, 2016

People spend their time dreaming about their upcoming vacations and all the exotic destinations they could possibly visit. There are many different choices and beach vacations are an extremely popular one. What can beat gorgeous weather, amazing sandy beaches and a crystal blue ocean? However, if you are looking for a more active holiday, a western dude ranch vacation is sure to get you the best value for your money. Here’s why a vacation at a Dude Ranch is sure to be more fun than a beach vacation:

Tourist Free Holidays

Nothing is worse than a lack of privacy or not getting enough peace and quiet when you are on a holiday. Spending your holiday at a Dude Ranch is the best way to avoid crowds of tourists and get some peace and quiet to yourself. Beaches are almost always crowded with hundreds of people. If you are hoping for a low-key holiday destination where you can just relax, a dude ranch holiday is the perfect option where you can socialize when you please and also find areas for quiet reflection.

Beach Vacation

Comfortable Weather

While a beach vacation is perfect while it’s sunny and you are enjoying yourself on the sand, you might be seeking some cooler temperatures in the evening. To make the most of the great weather, head over to a Dude Ranch for your holidays. In some locations, dude ranches are perfectly warm and cozy during the day but cooler in the evening so you can enjoy a nice brisk evening walk. If you visit a dude ranch in the Winter, you can take advantage of the beautiful snow white wonderland or temperate climates in locations such as Arizona.

Family Friendly

While there are many opportunities to have fun at the beach, children often get bored once they have finished building their sandcastles and playing in the ocean for the second day in a row. After that, children tend to complain about how sandy or how wet it is and want to go back home. Rest assured, Dude Ranches provide children a perfectly safe environment to play and have fun. In addition, Dude Ranches offer a wide range of awesome activities, such as hiking, swimming, horseback riding and rafting, which will not only keep the adults entertained but also the kids happy.

Incredible Views

Sure, nobody can deny a sunset on at a deserted beach is gorgeous but compare that to the experience of being so close to nature and even wildlife. If you truly want your vacation to be exotic, go for a ranch vacation. Not only does a ranch vacation guarantee you a better view but it also allows you to get closer to nature. Imagine going horseback riding alongside deer, moose and elks. It is really a fun way to spend some time appreciating and enjoying the wonders of nature.

What’s better for socializing

On a beach vacation there are so many tourists jammed together that the most you really get to do is exchange a few words. At dude ranches, many often have family style dining where you will be sitting with the same guests for every meal. Also, you will most likely run into common faces while doing activities. It’s very common to form long lasting friendships from meeting at dude ranches.

How a Dude Ranch Can Revive Your Life

Thursday, December 17th, 2015

It’s time to put away your cell phone, kick off the stilettos and replace them with a cute cowboy hat, jeans and riding boots. It’s Dude Ranch time!  Be prepared to live out your City Slicker fantasies by heading out to an authentic dude ranch and staying awhile. There are many reasons to have a well-earned break at a dude ranch and one reason is to immerse yourself in the true history of the old American West. So go ahead and summon your inner cowboy to ‘Saddle-Up Partner,’ and enjoy the many delights and challenges that a dude ranch vacation or get-away can offer.

Cowboy-Boots-And-Hat

Imagine the thrill of riding a beautiful horse amid mind-blowing scenery with expert, friendly wranglers on hand to ensure you have a safe and wonderful day, as you detox and decompress from the cares and concerns of your normal city life!  Whether a beginner or experienced rider, the exhilarating joy of a day spent in the saddle is hard to beat. And after a fantastic day riding the trails, treat yourself to a long, leisurely soak in the hot-tub, before sitting down to a satisfying home-cooked meal along with the company of some great folks to while away the evening hours.

Horseback riding

In addition, you get to roam around a spectacular piece of land with wide-open spaces usually with rivers or streams; participate in some campsite sing-alongs and meet like-minded people. Most importantly however, you get to walk around with your thumbs placed in your belt loops and tip your hat to everyone that walks by and say things like: “howdy” and “yee-hah.”  The greatest part is that you can do it with a straight face, without sounding completely out of place. You will also have the freedom of just being yourself without worrying about what people are thinking or who is watching.

Since many Dude Ranches discourage the use of a cell-phone or access to the internet you can experience a much-needed technology detox.  For a little while at least, you can absent yourself from all the depressing news and celebrity gossip and get to enjoy a real relaxing time-out surrounded by great down-home people.

Dinnertime

There’s nothing more American than the Old West, and there’s no better way to hit the reset button on your life and go back to the reality of waking up to the sounds of birds singing at dawn. Find your bliss in the wild and find your happiness in dude ranch life. It’s too easy to be constantly connected and to allow the material and the tangibles run your life. A visit to a dude ranch will give you a much-needed respite from the constant demands of being “on-line!” It will connect you with friendly, down-to-earth people and send a shot of yearning for the simple life deep into your soul.

Yee-hah!
